Ritual of celebration for the Autumn Equinox

The Autumn Equinox is a time to offer praise to the sun for providing light and warmth to grow the crops as well as giving thanks to the earth for providing the food needed to endure the harsh winter months.

Recommended Items: Corn, squash, apples, seeds, marigolds.

Candles: 1 black, 1 white, 1 dark green, 1 or more other autumn colour like red, orange, brown, or gold

Oils: Frankincense, Sandalwood, pine, rosemary, or chamomile

Stones: Jade, carnelian or lapis lazuli

Herbs: Sage, Hawthorne, or cedar

The first thing you’ll want to do is to set up the altar. The process may differ depending on the tradition or personal preference. The preferred way to arrange it with a white candle on the left for the Goddesses/feminine and the black candle on the right for the Gods/masculine. Doing this represents the duality and balance between light and dark, masculine and feminine, and the equal amount of day to night.

The pentacle is placed towards the North, a candle is placed towards the South, the cup towards the West, and incense or oils towards the East (they can be placed near the altar depending on personal preference). Harvest related items and stones should be placed around the altar.

Next light the black and white candles and invite the Divine to be present during the celebration and reflect on the abundance you have received this season. Identify and state aloud several things you are grateful for whether they are large or small. Then, ask for anything you need help with like establishing balance in your life, letting go of something or maintaining safety and security.

Visualize yourself feeling secure, healthy, emotionally balanced and grateful for the abundance in your life. State your vision out loud in whatever way feels most natural to you while lighting the green candle. Then end it with a final phrase like “So let it be,” “It is done,” “So mote it be,” or Blessed Be.” Be sure to consciously release your intentions into the universe for them to manifest. Watch the flame for a few moments, feeling the energy within and around you, then thank the Divine for their presence.

It is important to remember that rituals and spells though powerful are not instantaneous and require active participation. No matter how you do the ritual or how much you do the ritual it will not work if you purposely try to seek conflict or put your self in risky situations.

Zeus

About

Zeus is regarded as the King of the gods in Greek mythology and rules on Mount Olympus. He is also the God of the sky, thunder and lightning, law, order and justice. He was the youngest child of the titans Kronos and Rhea who also gave birth to Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter. He is associated with the thunderbolt, bull, eagle, and oak.

Zeus is married to Hera who gave birth to Ares, Hephaestus and Hebe. Zeus is well known for his many affairs which have resulted in many children the most notable of being Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Dionysus, Heracles, Helen of Troy and Minos to name a few.

Lore

Kronos who had previously overthrown his father Uranus heard that he would share the same fate and be overthrown by one of his children. To avoid this he consumed each of his children after they were born.

To prevent Zeus from sharing this fate Rhea sought the help of her parents, Gaia and Uranus, to hide Zeus in a cave on the island of Crete. There he was raised on the milk of the nymph Amalthea and was guarded by the Kouretes who drowned out his crying by dancing, shouting and banging their spears against their shields to prevent Kronos from hearing him.

When Zeus came of age he tricked Kronos into consuming a liquid which forced him to vomit up Zeus’ siblings who escaped with him. To defeat Kronos and the other titans Zeus freed the brothers of Kronos the Cyclopes and the Hecatonchires who were imprisoned in Tartarus.

As a sign of their gratitude, the cyclopes gave him the thunderbolts for which he is well known for. Together they overthrew Kronos and the other titans in what is referred to as the Titanomachy. Afterwards many of the Titans were imprisoned in Tartarus while some received other punishments, like Atlas who was punished by having to hold up the sky.

Once the Titanomachy had ended Zeus split dominion of the world with his brothers Poseidon and Hades by drawing lots. Zeus received dominion over the sky and air, Poseidon over the oceans and water, and Hades over the Underworld and the souls of the dead.

Gaia was angered by Zeus’ treatment of the Titans and sent her children, Typhon and Echidna to fight him. Zeus defeated Typhon and imprisoned him under Mount Etna and let Echidna and her children live.

Analysis

Like with many Greek Gods Zeus has a wide array of human flaws and traits. As stated before he has had many affairs with women other than his wife and has taken on many different forms to facilitate these affairs. He is often very quick to anger and will smite those who have wronged him with a lightning bolt.

When to invoke

Zeus is a god that can be invoked for positive weather given his association with the sky and weather. It is best to invoke him in matters regarding justice and ruler ship given his position as the king of the gods. Though he shouldn’t be invoked lightly and should be given proper respect to avoid incurring his wrath.

Medusa

Medusa is a well known monster in Greek Mythology. She is depicted as a woman with snakes for hair and the ability to turn anyone who looks at her into stone.

She was the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto. She had two sisters named Stheno and Euryale who both obtained immortality from their parents while Medusa was left mortal. Before the event that turned Medusa into the monster we know today she was a priestess at the temple dedicated to Athena on the island Sarpedon where she was born.

Despite her later appearance, Medusa was quite beautiful and had beautiful hair which drew the envy of Athena when worshipers would admire her beauty. This beauty was what drove the goddess Poseidon to rape her in Athena’s Temple.

Whether it was because of Athena’s envy towards Medusa’s beauty, the inability of Athena to directly punish Poseidon for the act or a combination of them, Athena turned Medusa into the monster we know her as today. It is possible that this act was done to take away and destroy the thing Poseidon coveted the most, Medusa’s Beauty.

Nopperabo

The Nopperabo, which means Faceless Monk and may also be called Mujina, acts and resembles an average human and can blend into society quite well. It is commonly encountered on empty roads, stores or buildings late at night when no one is around except for its potential victim.

The common routine for a Nopperabo is to appear as a person with their back turned towards the victim, the victim might ask them for directions or some other inquiry which is when the Nopperabo’s true appearance is revealed. They turn around and reveal that they have no face. In some cases they appear to have a face only to remove it in order to maximize their reveal.

Nopperabo have been known to work in groups to increase the horror for the victim. As the victim runs away in horror they come across someone else and tries to explain what happened only for the individual to reply “Oh, you mean like this?” causing the person to repeat their horror and actions from before. This might happen multiple times to one victim and might even continue when they run home to tell their spouse of what happened only for them to reply “Oh, you mean like this?” since Nopperabo are able to impersonate relatives.

Though a Nopperabo might cause great horror and distress to an individual they fall under the prankster category of Youkai and don’t directly cause any harm to their victim.

Building a Workshop

Setting up a workshop is a useful step for a Magus. it is not entirely necessary as there are many mages both past and present who have practiced mage craft without the aid of a workshop but for many mages it is a useful base and a safe haven for their craft.

The workshop is where a Magus keeps their Grimoires as well as the materials for their rituals. It is also a place for them to practice spells and channel energy.

It is best to set up your workshop in a place that you have a special connection to like a childhood home, somewhere that has a connection to nature, or has a potent history to draw from.

Altar

Once the location for the workshop has been chosen the next thing to do is to set up the Altar. The Altar is the center piece for magic spells and can be personalized to fit your needs. It can very in size from a dining table to a shelf or a mantelpiece depending on the size of your workshop or the location where you are casting the spell.

What you put on your Altar and how you decorate it is entirely personal. Whether you have a table made from natural wood or use a table that has been in your house for years, whether you decorate with a purple cloth or spread a variety of gemstones over it is completely up to the individual.

Pentacle

The five pointed star is one of the most important objects in spell casting. The Pentacle, or Pentagram, is believed to date back to Mesopotamia and has been an important symbol of spiritual protection for many religions including Alchemy. The five points on the star represent the key elements of magic: fire, water, earth and air while the top point represent spirit or in some cases void.

It is recommended to always have the Pentacle on you or your altar when ever you are casting a spell. It is best to charge it before use by leaving it in direct moonlight during a full moon to increase the potency of a spell.

Candles

Candles play an important roll in magecraft. They represent the elements of air and fire and most rituals require at least one or two candles, it is wise to have a variety of them in different colours in case a ritual calls for one in a specific colour.

Incense

Incense also plays an important role in rituals and helps to boosts a spells potency. There are many different kinds with many different effects.

Basil: Is used for prosperity and attracting wealth as well as being used in fertility rituals.

Eucalyptus: Used for balancing emotions and is helpful when making tough decisions.

Frankincense: It is a good spiritual cleanser and can be used to help people who are fighting off an illness.

Opium: Helps with sleep and psychic abilities and can help those dealing with Insomnia.

Sage: It is commonly used in smudge sticks and is burned to cleanse a space of negative energy.

Sandalwood: Has a pleasant, warm, gentle smell which is good for relaxation.

Ylang-Ylang: Is useful in love spells to attract love as well as harmonizing marriages.

Soil and Water

It is recommended to have soil and water on hand for certain rituals. Soil represents the element of earth and is used in spells for prosperity, material needs and stability. The soil should be from a place that holds a personal collection like your childhood home. Water is used for spells that relate to change or cycles and should be gathered from either a stream or rain.

The Root

Modern Magecraft is but a shadow of the Root.

Lord El-Melloi II

There are many names for the Root across many religions. It is most commonly known as heaven, Yggdrasil, The Tao as well as the Akashic Record. Though no name can capture the true essence of what The Root is and words alone are unable to truly represent its magnificence or power.

The Root is the source of all souls as well as the primordial source from where magic and deities draw their power from. It is the Root from which the Primordial Gods who built the universe came from and it is the force that guides the world whether we are aware of it or not.

One way to understand the Root is through how it affects our day to day lives. One such way is through a persons Origin. An origin is a latent driving force that exists within all individuals. Origins are abstract and because of this can’t be entirely understood with words alone.

An origin is unique to each individual and can be understood to some extent by a certain phrase. An example of this is “He is death incarnate.” or “She could never sleep while others suffered.” Even simple phrases like “He was born to fix problems.” can have different meanings depending on the person. For one person it can mean that they will become a great mechanic for another it can mean fixing relationship and emotional problems.

The Age of Gods

The Age of Gods as the name implies is the age when Gods walked the earth and a time when magic and mana was in abundance. It is a time when magical creatures, Phantasmals, were ever present and where many great epics from around the world originate.

It is an age when mystery was abundant and what would be impossible by today’s standards was very much possible. It was a time when monsters like the dragon Fafnir, the sea monster Cetus and countless Youkai weren’t confined simply to the pages of books.

This age inevitably came to an end as humans moved further away from their gods and devoted their efforts to the sciences which ushered in our current age, The Age of Man. This shift was facilitated with the proliferation of reading and writing as well as the ability to record sights and sounds which removed many mysteries from the world.

For all the benefits that cameras and records did for ushering in the Age of Man the decline of the Age of Gods was started long ago in ancient Mesopotamia by King Gilgamesh.
